Shared Patrol vs a Dedicated Guard for Apartment Communities

UEMSA Editorial TeamOctober 7, 2026

If your apartment community in Boca Raton or elsewhere in South Florida needs someone on site for an entire shift, you need a dedicated guard. If you need a regular, documented security presence and cannot justify a full-time post, shared patrol is usually the better fit. The two solve different problems.

What each one covers

A dedicated guard is assigned to your property for an agreed shift. The officer is there the whole time, can staff a gate or lobby, and responds on the spot. You pay for every hour of that shift.

Shared patrol is route-based. An officer visits your property on a schedule, checks in by GPS, patrols the agreed areas and moves on to the next property on the route. You pay a monthly plan price for a set number of visits.

How the cost compares

UEMSA shared patrol plans are priced by the month: $500 for 1 visit a week, $1,500 for 3 visits a week, $2,000 for 4 visits a week and $2,500 for 5 visits a week. Dedicated coverage is quoted by the hours, staffing and risk involved, so it depends on your property. The practical difference is that shared patrol spreads the cost of an officer across several properties, while a dedicated post is paid for by one.

When shared patrol is enough

  • You want a visible patrol presence in parking areas and common areas.
  • You want exterior doors, gates and amenities checked on a schedule.
  • You want incident reports when something is found, with GPS proof that visits happened.
  • You do not need an officer at a fixed post.

When you need a dedicated officer

  • You need access control at a gate or front desk.
  • You need someone on site at specific hours every night.
  • You have an active problem that calls for continuous presence.

Be clear about one limit: with shared patrol, specific arrival times and exclusive officer presence are not guaranteed. If that matters for your property, ask about upgrading to dedicated private patrol.

A middle path

Some properties use shared patrol as their baseline and add short-term coverage when they need it, such as during a move-in weekend or after an incident. UEMSA Pay As You Go security is booked per request with no term contract, so it can sit on top of a patrol plan.
